Di Fiorino mentioned in “China Targets” by ICIJ

Our partner Enrico Di Fiorino has been mentioned in recent international judicial reports concerning the so-called “transnational repression” carried out by Beijing. His name has been widely cited by the newspapers L’Espresso and Domani as part of “China Targets”, the major global investigation coordinated by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), the international network known for the “Panama Papers” inquiry.

According to reports by ICIJ partner outlets, Di Fiorino has assisted several Chinese nationals affected by Interpol Red Notices, tools that are often used instrumentally by the Chinese authorities to seek the extradition of dissidents or businesspeople residing abroad.

Regarded as one of the leading experts in judicial cooperation and respect for the rule of law, our partner has observed that European judges are becoming increasingly aware of the risks of inhuman treatment or unfair trials in Chinese prisons.

He was previously interviewed by The Washington Post following the landmark judgment in Liu v. Poland, a cornerstone of European case law concerning extraditions to China. He also secured in Italy the first decision rejecting an extradition request to the People’s Republic of China following the aforementioned intervention of the European Court of Human Rights, thereby establishing a key precedent for the protection of fundamental rights in extradition matters.
